About
In 1985 I began shooting professionally for advertising and corporate clients in Upstate New York. During the 1990s I helped develop our modern digital imaging to print workflow and designed several of the first Fortune 500 websites. I published books, taught workshops, consulted for manufacturers and worked as a creative director on national marketing campaigns. My design and art direction, photographs, writing and presentations were especially successful and profitable for my clients so I worked at a high level both independently and with advertising agencies for Xerox, Verizon, Steuben Glass, Sprint, Kodak, DuPont, Corning, Bausch & Lomb/RayBan, multiple colleges and research labs, tech start-ups, the United Way and lots of charities. Throughout my career I’ve always made time for fine-art photography, first with a darkroom then using Macs and Photoshop. I still photograph daily using every kind of camera from my phone to 8×10 and 7×17 film.
I was a hard charger and regularly pulled all-nighters against ridiculous deadlines. But in 2004 I developed Rheumatoid Arthritis and was unable to maintain the necessary pace. I still have a strong imagination and work ethic and am able to offer pragmatic, real world advice and consultation on a range of marketing, design and photography matters.
In 2024 I served six months in jail on charges stemming from stupidly but non-violently protesting Zionism so I am now a felon, which limits my travel to California day trips or approved travel with a month’s advance notice for the next few years. No guns, voting or visits to Canada either. My internet traffic and social media seem suppressed and there is zero expectation of privacy… but I do have some great stories.
I’ve dedicated my life to photography.
You can hire me to make environmental portraits and landscape studies, show a photo-journalistic story or create an allegorical image. I’m good at observation and noticing. I’ll do my best to be a charming professional.
Most of my existing images can be licensed with flexible terms. I have multiple bodies of work ready for publication and as art prints. And I have a couple of Blurb print on demand books available but they’re kind of expensive.
My prints have been collected worldwide, often by fellow photographers. Prices start at $500 for a state-of-art best archival practices inkjet on Baryta. All prints are custom made and of the highest quality.
I’ve taught at the Visual Studies Workshop, ICP/NY, Palm Beach Workshops and the Center for Creative Imaging. Occasionally I’ll coach private students.
In my youth I worked at Alta, Mt. Hood and Sugarloaf where I was an alpine ski racing coach and jack of all trades. Went to Clarkson and the University of Oregon, grew up and worked on construction in Western New York. Say hello if you remember me?
Thanks for looking. I appreciate all referrals.
