I am a photographer from Upstate New York, known for my portraits, stories, and observations. My methods are spontaneous, simple, and always on location... I am not someone to call for elaborate, staged productions – rather you send me out guerrilla-style and I'll deliver loose yet highly-crafted pictures that resonate because they look and feel "real".
Earlier in my career I operated a pioneering digital imaging and graphic design studio doing work for Fortune 500 companies and 4A advertising agencies. I taught at the Center for Creative Imaging, International Center for Photography/NY, Palm Beach Photo Workshops, and the Visual Studies Workshop. And I've been a consultant to Adobe, DaiNippon Screen, Eastman Kodak, and Scitex.
I have over thirty-five years of experience as a commercial photographer, graphic designer, advertising art director, creative director, and marketing consultant. As a photographer I shot my first international annual report in 1990. I was one of the first to use digital photography for mail order catalog production in 1994. My work has been profiled in Communication Arts, Korean Photo, Photo District News, Print, and Russian Photo and Video magazines.
While I have a degree from the University of Oregon I consider myself an autodidact. I distrust and avoid academic institutions and anything to do with the "art world". Likewise I do not actively market or promote my work, confident that it's best for people to discover me organically. I understand this irony after a career in marketing.
Currently I am looking for portrait commissions and editorial/advertising assignments. I'll also mentor and teach aspiring photographers one-on-one. While my rates are medium to high, I operate very efficiently and without pretense so I am likely to be competitively priced. Please inquire.
